Samurai
I was watching a show on Netflix about the Japanese samurai . Are there any other samurai other than Japanese? I don't I don't know. I don't think so. But it was about the samurai and the Edo period. I think that the years that they covered were from like early 1500s to like mid 1500s, a late 1500s. And it was a fascinating show. It was documentary style, but it's also kind of dramatized. ties and there's you know, real acting and fairly decent. I mean, they don't say a whole lot. They do say some things, but for the most part, it's just them kind of being dramatic. I thought I was like really entertaining and something to watch. I definitely recommend it to people. But you get a good like glimpse at that period of history of Japanese history. And what people had to go through. I learned, I learned quite a bit because I had no idea. Like, I mean, I had an idea that there were emperors and children, children, children, children. Is there a multiple , what's the plural show them? Show them not, show the name? I don't want to embarrass myself too much. But yeah, you know, I knew the warlords existed. There was a lot of fighting, but it just kind of made me realize just how terrible things were in terms of warfare. For example, I don't want to say too much in case you want to watch the show, but pretty much every battle, they spared nobody. The winning side, they spared nobody on the other side. And I mean, nobody, not civilians, not women, not children. Pretty much everybody had to go. So I found that kind of fascinating, can I go? There's a construction. So the guy was waving just kind of to stop, but then he had a white flag and I was like, well, that's kind of weird. Like, why are you waving to stop, but you got a white flag? Anyway, back to his habit. Yeah, so when they went through an account conquered the city or village, they just wiped everybody out. Can you imagine, like, if you're the warrior and you go through and your commander says, hey, kill that baby there, or look at that two year old kid, I don't know. Like, as a parent that just absolutely horrifies me, I can't imagine living in that time and seeing your kids murdered and then yourself murdered, your wife murdered, whatever. But just from a human point of view, like, how could you possibly ever kill a baby and infant? I can't imagine that. I can't, I mean, I suppose like, if the choice is you have to kill that baby, or you get killed in your family, get killed? Maybe. Maybe it's somehow justifies making that choice. I guess you're forced to. I don't know what the consequences were for this obeying, but in that scenario, like, oh god, I can't even think about it. It's such a terrible thing. And just how brutal everything was. Just to survive to an old age was kind of a miracle. And there was one commander who survived into the old age and he became kind of the reunification guy. He reunified the Japan for like 200 some years afterwards, which is really fascinating. But I think it's like six or seven episodes. And they go through a long history. It's just fun to watch. I got quiet because I went by a cop and I am holding the phone with one of my friends. Yeah, check out, I don't know if it's available to you personally, or if it's something on the Japanese version of Netflix, but it's in English. And the Japanese is sub-titled. And it's just several historians talking about these things as they have like a b -roll of the battles and things. It's fascinating to watch. You kind of build up an image of each character. Two forklifts? You kind of familiarize yourself with each character as they progress through this history. And yeah, it's good to watch.
