Indie.am Updates: RSS fixes, social sharing options
All right, here's my indie.am update for Monday. So the thing I just published is some fixes to the RSS feed. It turns out that years ago I hard coded 2021 in as a year and that screwed up all the feeds after that. I just noticed it , so I fixed that and I now use chat.gp to format the transcript into a blog post. So that markdown gets converted to HTML. And long story short, it's nicely formatted when you open it up in the podcast app. I spent a while working a little custom component to integrate the old podlog pop up this little thing where you click a little RSS icon in the app and it redirects you to your podcast app based on the one you choose or what platform you're on. It's a little thing, but I fixed that as well. A few other things I've been working on the background, so the transcriptions now happen with Whisper, which are pretty high quality transcriptions, but kind of resource intensive on the server. So I've got a thing that cues jobs as you browse through older. In the AM podcasts to re-transcribe them using Whisper, it fixes the timestamps. They're a little bit more accurate for like the subtitles and I've reworked video generation as well. I just haven't gotten the chance to integrate that into the apps and it'll be a more complicated feature. There's like 15 video templates I came up with, so it's going to have to be some like process where like you had a share button, you create a video, you choose one from the gallery, you customize it possibly. There's a couple of options you could choose and then like you wait a little bit. So like 10 or 20 seconds for the video to be generated, so like if you exit that has to save it back to the item, maybe it has to give you a little notification, like it's a more complex UI feature, so I haven't started that part of it yet. But I did fix a lot of things around social media sharing, the meta tags and things like that added the share button, so that is something that needs to be done, the the whole flow sharing to another social media feed. You can embed it in Twitter, formerly known as X, but blue sky doesn't allow audio posts yet you can link to them, doesn't work perfectly because something about their in at browser breaks audio playback. It's specific to this app though, so it might be something I screwed up. I got it working once before. It's weird if I share the audio post to blue sky and then I tap to launch the podcast app using their in at browser, then I can go back and play the audio file. So it's something weird happening and I'm not really sure why it's like the audio is muted in their in at browser by default. I'll have to play around with it and see what happens when you share like a different link that plays audio inside the app. But anyway, I got a lot done. I thought it'd be fun to share and test out the long recording feature. I will go ahead and stop it and see how this turns out.
